Before finally deciding to explore the translation of sex-related language for my PhD project, I intended to study the translation of trauma. Glad that I could embark on this little side-project for a while and presented my research entitled “Translating Trauma and Painful Emotions: A Case Study of Speak from English to Indonesian” in Emotions in Turmoil Symposium. Kudos to the convenors and all the speakers and participants!
The topic of the symposium was a new field for me, slightly strayed from the usual topic I've been working on. Some presenters' topics are highly relevant for my study. As usual, my PPT slide is available upon request (lidya.ayuningtyas@research.uwa.edu.au).
Around a week after the symposium, a professor from another university reached out to me and offered me an opportunity to write a book chapter. I gladly accepted the idea. Cannot say anything yet but I'm crossing my fingers.
With all these academic things taking up the majority of my time, I still managed to find some time to write poetry. One poem was published in Meniscus Literary Journal: it's a short piece about a mother leaving her daughter to study in another country. Another one about postpartum period has been accepted in Damsel Magazine, a UWA university magazine but no publication date yet. Also in poetry, I'll perform in Perth Poetry Festival this August! Yeay! Really looking forward to my first literary (and international!) event :)
I also revived my old Twitter account and created a Bluesky account to put my future academic and non-academic works out there. Unsure if this will be something I might regret since generally I much prefer blogging (can't help it, I'm old).
Almost forgot about one important update: I was accepted in the CETRA KU Leuven Summer School in Translation Studies programme. This one is super important and deserve a separate post (or more).
Ps.: I'm currently in Indonesia having my last 2 wisdom teeth extracted. Safe to say that I no longer have wisdom. I do not have the dental insurance in Australia and I'm giving myself a treat because I'm spending my time with Kenny and our daughter 💕
Pps: Husband just published two journal articles in Scientific Reports (Nature!!!) and PLOS One. Told you he's amazing ;)
